A huge thank you for your support for our Break the Rules Day and donations of items for Calais Light - your generosity was overwhelming. In the Jubiliee Year when we are called to be Pilgrims of Hope, we have certainly brought a little hope to refugees who have lost everything.
The whole school took part in a Big Lent Walk around the local area to raise money for CAFOD as well as to be witnesses of our faith. What a fabulous morning, ending with a blessing in the church by Fr Gary. Thank you for all your support - we raised an incredible £191!
As part of our Jubilee: Pilgrims of Hope and Lenten journey, we have been putting our faith into action and looking after God's Creation by picking up litter in the local area.
A HUGE thank you to Mrs Chandler and her husband for all of their hard work and giving up their time to make our prayer garden look so beautiful. We think it looks amazing, just in time for springtime!
Lucy is in for her first day today, teaching singing lessons for some of our students. It's lovely to hear the sound of their lovely voices!
Mary Stretch came into school today to talk to Year 5 and 6 about her charity, Calais Light who support grassroots charities based in Calais like Care4Calais & Refugee Community Kitchen in their work with the refugee population in and around Calais.
Mary is a truly inspirational person who began her career as a brand manager for Unilever before becoming one of the first black female producer/presenters on BBC radio and television. She is now trailblazing humanitarian and advocate for refugees and she lives right here in Hutton!
A short film has been made about Mary's life: 'On a Bet and a Prayer', details of which can be found at: https://www.dioceseofbrentwood.net/news/marys-story-on-a-bet-and-a-prayer/
St Joseph's are proud to adopt Calais Light as one of their charities. Mary's presentation to the children can be found on our Year 5 and 6 pages on our website.
We went outside and counted birds as part of the Big School Birdwatch this half term.
Well done to our Kurling team who represented the school at the finals in Basildon this week!
It was lovely to hear the children talk so enthusiastically and knowledgably about their learning in RE today as they tucked into some raisins and biscuits.
They said that they enjoy RE lessons, especially when there are artefacts to touch and feel or if they include drama.
“Parables tell you a moral. They tell you how to treat other people. They are found in the Gospels in the Bible.”
Last week we had a writing tea party and the week before, a maths tea party. The children are so articulate about what they are learning and why they are learning it. They enjoy all of their lessons in school and they feel supported by the teachers.
