Mary Stretch came into school today to talk to Year 5 and 6 about her charity, Calais Light who support grassroots charities based in Calais like Care4Calais & Refugee Community Kitchen in their work with the refugee population in and around Calais.
Mary is a truly inspirational person who began her career as a brand manager for Unilever before becoming one of the first black female producer/presenters on BBC radio and television. She is now trailblazing humanitarian and advocate for refugees and she lives right here in Hutton!
A short film has been made about Mary's life: 'On a Bet and a Prayer', details of which can be found at: https://www.dioceseofbrentwood.net/news/marys-story-on-a-bet-and-a-prayer/
St Joseph's are proud to adopt Calais Light as one of their charities. Mary's presentation to the children can be found on our Year 5 and 6 pages on our website.
