St Joseph the Worker

Catholic Primary School

Years 1 - 3

On Thursday afternoon, our Year 1, 2 and 3 children took part in their very first My Future Zoom session an exciting project designed to raise aspirations and introduce them to the wide range of careers they could explore in the future.

Today’s theme was “Can we fix it?”, and the children enjoyed a virtual visit from professionals whose jobs involve solving problems and fixing things. They were introduced to a variety of job types, some of which were completely new to them. Our visitors explained what they do in their roles, how they help people, the skills they use every day, and what they enjoy most about their work.

The children also had great fun taking part in a Charades Golden Envelope activity, where they acted out different jobs for their classmates to guess. This was a wonderful way to help them remember the different careers they had learned about, while building confidence and teamwork skills.

The session encouraged the children to think about:

  • which jobs they found most interesting
  • what different jobs involve and the skills they require
  • how the things they already enjoy doing could link to future careers

Throughout the programme, the children will also continue developing important life skills such as planning, setting simple goals, trying new challenges, and building a positive mindset all valuable foundations for their future learning and development.

Please talk to your child about what they learned during the session and take a moment to look at the attached flyer together.

It was a fantastic start to the programme, and we are excited to see how the children build on today’s inspiration in the weeks ahead!
